Working together to make a difference to the Monash University Community.

Description
Monash University’s Health Service (UHS) has been a key component of the Monash Community for over 30 years. Covering three Monash Campuses, the UHS is staffed by a team of dedicated GPs, nurses, psychologists, social workers and allied health providers. As well as providing holistic and multidisciplinary care to over 16,000 students and staff every year, the UHS has expertise in health promotion, sexual and reproductive health and mental health and wellbeing. Since its foundation, the UHS has developed a network of positive working relationships with key groups and organisations both within and outside the University. Informed by the priorities of the Federal government's recent University Accord, the UHS has commenced a journey of reform and renewal, aiming to expand its offering and become the leading university health service in Australia and among the very best in the world. Professor Russell’s team has extensive international experience in helping primary care clinics reflect on their performance and use those reflections to improve the way that care is delivered. Previous studies have explored how practices manage the introduction of new professionals, deliver care to refugees, negotiate COVID and manage patient safety. This Honours / PhD project will involve working with the UHS to co-identify a priority area for the UHS in its journey to quality care. The area will be the focus for a project that will gather qualitative data from in-depth ethnographic examination of care processes, combined, where appropriate, with quantitative measures of UHS need and performance. Findings and insights will be shared with the Service and used a foundation for improvements for the development of care models and delivery of care to the Monash University Community. This unique opportunity would be suitable for individuals with a passion for health care improvement and a desire to dig beneath the surface to uncover the essence of quality primary care in a unique setting.
