What are the training needs for GPs-in-training relating to long-acting reversible contraception and medical abortion, and how can the AusCAPPS community of practice support professional development?

Description
Uptake of reliable and cost-effective long-acting reversible contraception (LARC), such as intrauterine devices (IUDs) and implants, is lower in Australia compared to similarly developed countries, and medical abortion can be difficult to access. General practitioners (GPs) are key providers of sexual and reproductive health care. Through a literature review and key informant interviews, this research seeks to understand the training needs of GPs in training for LARC and medical abortion, and how the AusCAPPS Network, a virtual community of practice for primary care practitioners, can support their education and continuing professional development in this area of practice.
