What’s sex got to do with it?

Description
Males and females have different clinical presentations of heart valve disease, as well as different responses to treatment. This project aims to develop a humanized zebrafish model of heart valve disease and to determine if sex hormones could affect the ability of endothelial progenitor cells to repair heart valves. Main techniques: culturing cells from human blood, ultrasound imaging of adult fish hearts, and making transgenic zebrafish lines.
