Using the lived experience of transfusion to improve practice and outcomes

Important evidence gaps persist in transfusion medicine regarding patient benefit, harm, and safety. Little is known about how blood is used, the outcomes of patients receiving it, or whether novel or alternative interventions or products may be superior. Transfusion support is used across many disciplines, and some of the most significant users are critically ill patients in intensive care and those with blood cancers. Research projects include clinical trials and cohort studies, mixed-methods research, qualitative research and literature reviews.
