Understanding how general practitioners engage culturally and linguistically diverse women in contraceptive counselling

Description
Australian women from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds are disproportionately less likely than their Australian-born peers to use effective contraceptive methods and to experience unintended pregnancy/ies. Limited knowledge and poor access to reliable information pertaining to effective contraceptive options, including long-acting reversible contraceptive methods, contributes to this critical public health issue. However, evidence pertaining to how general practitioners engage CALD women in contraceptive counselling is limited. The aim of this project is to address this knowledge gap by exploring how general practitioners engage CALD women in contraceptive counselling, and the socioecological factors which contribute to their practices.
