Toddler and pre-school development in children (1-5 years) born to women who took antipsychotic/antidepressant medication during pregnancy, using data from the National Register of Antipsychotic Medication in Pregnancy (NRAMP)

Description
Despite an increase in the number of women with severe mental illness desiring families and a subsequent increase in the rate of antenatal psychotropic use, there remains little understanding of the effect of maternal psychotropic use during pregnancy on future child development. The aim of this study is to investigate whether in utero antipsychotic and/or antidepressant medication exposure affects child development from 12 months to 5 years, by comparing the development of exposed children to the development of nonexposed children. Exposed children will be recruited from The National Register of Antipsychotic/Antidepressant Medication in Pregnancy (NRAMP), an observational, cohort study for women who take antipsychotic and/or antidepressant medication during pregnancy, while unexposed children will be recruited from community sampling.
