PhD scholarship opportunity: Interventional pumpless intra-aortic balloon heart assist device

Description
Professor Julian Smith is searching for an outstanding PhD candidate for the pumpless intra-aortic balloon heart assist device project. There will be a funded scholarship available for the successful applicant. The project will develop an interventionally implanted “pumpless” intra-aortic balloon (IAB) device which offers a non-surgical solution using passive dampening for the treatment of hypertension and hypertensive heart failure. The overall goal is to develop a medical device therapy to address the unmet clinical need for the management of drug resistant hypertension and moderate heart failure (HF) which carry high incidence, cause declining health, poor quality of life, and high mortality, and have huge treatment costs
