Medicinal Cannabis for Chronic Pain

Description
An increasing number of Australians are being prescribed medicinal cannabis for chronic pain, but we still don't know how well it really works or who it best works for. The pharmacology of medicinal cannabis is complex, and different components in the plant may have distinct therapeutic qualities. This project will use fMRI techniques to investigate how medicinal cannabis alters pain processing architecture. By imaging parts of the brain responsible for regulating pain and emotion, we hope to better understand if and how medicinal cannabis alters the sensation of pain and its emotional weight.
