Measuring best practice - Routine supportive care needs screening for patients with pancreatic and oesophagogastric cancer

Description
*** $3,000 scholarship on offer to one successful applicant *** Early identification and referral of patients with unmet needs to supportive care services has demonstrated tangible benefit to patients. Despite this, more than two-thirds of patients with upper gastrointestinal (UGI) cancer have been reported to have a “tsunami of unmet [supportive care] needs”. A key strategic direction of the Victorian Government is to improve the delivery of supportive care services at a state-wide level by implementing supportive care needs screening (SCNS) into routine clinical practice. PROJECT AIM: The aim of this study is to evaluate whether individuals diagnosed with pancreatic and oesophagogastric cancer are being administered a SCNS tool to assess their supportive care needs as a routine part of clinical practice at health services in Victoria. This project involves: 1) Data collection via the Upper Gastrointestinal Cancer Registry 2) Data auditing and cleaning 3) Data analysis *** $3,000 scholarship on offer to one successful applicant ***
