Digital health - optimising use of data to support clinicians in providing best practice stroke care.

Description
The aims of this study are to test the most effective way to provide feedback to clinicians and hospital executives. The project is being supported by the NHMRC funded Centre of Research Excellence to Accelerate Stroke Trial Innovation and Translation in collaboration with the Australian Stroke Clinical Registry (Florey Institute) and Monash University. Methods: Comparative effectiveness trials will be used. This will test a ‘real-time’ online performance dashboard versus the distribution of tailored institution-specific reports. We will test feedback with evidence-based options (e.g. evidence summaries, peer performance comparison data), and explore whether adding other evidence-based co-interventions (e.g. access to an online outreach implementation support package, barrier and enabler assessment tools, educational outreach, reminders – all successfully used in our previous research) further improves evidence uptake. The study is expected to lead to improved mechanisms for using routinely collected performance data to drive clinician provision of evidence-based care to improve outcomes. Effective tools will be incorporated in the Australian Stroke Clinical Registry as part of a learning health system approach to adapting new evidence as it is generated. The student will work within the Translational Public Health & Evaluation Division within the School of Clinical Sciences from Monash University. Depending on the background and qualifications of the student, they will be able to interrogate data to build expertise in epidemiology, clinical trials data analysis, clinical quality registries or health data informatics. The student is expected to summarise the work completed and their contributions to the research in a thesis by publication. The project is most suitable for a PhD degree, however, modification to suit the requirements of a Masters by Research may be considered.
