AI Simulations for Culturally Responsive Healthcare Practice

Join an award-winning program of research exploring how generative artificial intelligence can transform health professions education. Building on our internationally recognised work in AI-enabled learning and simulation, this research aims to co-design authentic AI simulations with healthcare consumers, communities, educators, and clinicians to better prepare future health professionals for culturally responsive practice. Despite increasing cultural diversity within healthcare systems, many health professions students have limited opportunities to engage with authentic, culturally complex clinical scenarios in a safe learning environment. Advances in generative AI provide new opportunities to create realistic, adaptive simulations that enable students to develop communication, cultural humility, clinical reasoning, and reflective practice while learning directly from the lived experiences of diverse communities. I welcome expressions of interest from prospective Honours, Master's, and PhD candidates interested in advancing AI-enabled health professions education. Research projects may focus on the co-design of AI simulations with consumers and communities, evaluation of AI-supported learning, culturally responsive healthcare practice, student learning and assessment, implementation of AI within health professions education, and the ethical and responsible use of generative AI. Students will join an active program of research with opportunities to work alongside healthcare consumers, educators, clinicians, and international collaborators. Research outcomes are expected to contribute to peer-reviewed publications, presentations at national and international conferences, and the development of innovative educational resources that have the potential to influence health professions education nationally and internationally.
