Description

Access to timely, specialist care is critical for people diagnosed with pancreatic, oesophagogastric (OG), and liver cancers. However, patients living in regional and rural areas often face significant geographic barriers when accessing treatment, which may impact treatment timelines and survival outcomes. Travel time to the hospital is a key factor influencing equity of care and health service delivery planning.
PROJECT AIM: This study aims to compare driving time to the treating hospital between metropolitan and regional patients diagnosed with pancreatic, OG, or liver cancers in Victoria. The findings will inform future efforts to improve access and reduce disparities in cancer care across the state.
This project involves:
Data auditing and cleaning
Use of statistical software to calculate driving time from the patient's residence to the treating hospital
Data analysis and visualisation to identify patterns and inequities
