Description
Low dose colchicine, a drug used for many years in the successful treatment of gout, has in recent times been demonstrated to improve outcomes for patients with atherosclerotic coronary artery disease, in part due to its proposed anti-inflammatory properties. It is unknown if these beneficial effects are transferable to patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD). A new multinational, double blind, placebo controlled trial (LEADER-PAD) aims to evaluate the effects of low dose colchicine in PAD patients. The project will involve (one afternoon/week) attendance at a vascular outpatient clinic, assisting with screening patients for trial inclusion and exposure to the consenting and clinical trial administering process. The project duration is estimated to be approximately 12 months and would suit medical (MD) or BBiomed Sci students interested in gaining clinical exposure and trial experience.
