Description
Cancer survivors are at increased risk of future cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular risk factors, such as hypertension, are common among cancer survivors but often under-diagnosed and under-treated. Blood pressure measurements are routinely performed during day oncology center visits for administration of cancer therapy but are often not assessed temporally to screen and monitor hypertension.
In this project, we will identify cancer survivors who recently completed cancer treatment at the day oncology unit at Monash Health using ward and pharmacy records. Routine serial blood pressure measurements obtained during day oncology unit visits will be collected. Cancer survivors who had elevated average blood pressure readings will be contacted and invited to undergo 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring at the Victorian Heart Hospital. The rates of under-diagnosed and under-treated hypertension will be recorded.
